Preparations are in top gear for the 3rd edition of the Lateef Jakande Memorial Lecture, a prestigious annual event honoring the legacy of one of Nigeria’s most iconic governors and journalists. The lecture is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, July 23, 2025, in Ikeja, Lagos State.
Organizers say the event will bring together political heavyweights, media veterans, intellectuals, and members of the public to reflect on the values and leadership style of Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande, the first civilian Governor of Lagos State and a former Minister of Works.
This year’s theme is expected to focus on good governance, urban development, and press freedom, areas in which Jakande made historic strides during his lifetime. Invitations have reportedly been extended to notable national figures including governors, lawmakers, media CEOs, and civil society leaders.
“Jakande was a visionary leader whose policies in housing, education, and journalism remain unmatched,” said a member of the organizing committee. “This lecture serves as a platform to continue his legacy and inspire future generations.”
