The International Committee of All Africa Music Awards, AFRIMA, and AFRIMA Nigeria presented the AFRIMA 2014 Certificate of Nomination to Nigeria-based nominees for the 2014 edition on Wednesday October 8, at Quilox Club, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Representing the International Committee of AFRIMA at the event wereKingsley James, Co-Producer/Country Director, Nigeria; Steve Ayorinde, Chairman, International Media Committee, and BiodunKupoluyi,Member, International Media Committee.
Other attendees included African music industry personalities, artiste managers, on-air-personalities (OAPs) and music industry stakeholders.
James, whileaddressing the gathering before the formal presentation of certificates, spoke about the entry submission rules and regulations which predetermined how the 9-man jury panel carried out their responsibilities of selecting nominees based on the merit of their submitted works.
The Country Director Nigeria urged every nominee to accept the eventual result of the voting process with grace saying, “everyone of you is a potential winner and even after the trophy is given at the award ceremony, we expect everyone to continue to be ambassadors of African music and AFRIMA”.
Artistes present at the event such as Omawumi, TemiDollFace, Niyola, Brymo, Nikki Laoye, expressed delight with their nomination for the iconic award which seeks to celebrate the cultural uniqueness of Africa as well as celebrating the talents.
Omawumisaid, “I’m so glad that the music industry is changing. We have women who are strong in character and their music is equally beautiful that you cannot help but enjoy their music. I am grateful to AFRIMA for nominating me in this 2014 edition.”
Kupoluyi congratulated the artistes and commended them for their great works and contributions to the music industry, he also wished them all the best in the AFRIMA 2014 awards.
The main award ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, November 9 in Lagos, Nigeria.
