An Allied Air Cargo aircraft with registration number 5N-JRT, and with five individuals on board, on Wednesday crash-landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) in Abuja, forcing a temporary closure of the runway.

The plane, which landed earlier in the day, reportedly suffered a tyre burst and skidded off Runway 22, leaving it stuck near the runway and disrupting airport operations.

According to airport sources, efforts were ongoing to clear the affected runway and restore normal operations. The incident has caused significant delays to several flights, with passengers left waiting as emergency teams and investigators work at the scene.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah.

The FAAN said fortunately, no injuries were reported, while all occupants were safely evacuated and taken to the FAAN clinic for further checks.

The FAAN statement assured the public that the Airport Emergency Response Team and accident investigators are working diligently to clear the runway and ensure a quick return to operations.

While authorities appreciated the patience of the aviation community and the general public, FAAN cautioned against speculation until the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has released a preliminary report.

This incident highlighted the crucial role of emergency protocols in ensuring passenger safety during unexpected situations in aviation.
