Tragedy was narrowly averted at Mile 2, Lagos, when a loaded 40-ft container fell onto a Toyota Camry with registration number LSR 293 HJ.

The shocking accident, which occurred on the busy route to Apapa, could have ended in disaster but for the swift intervention of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other emergency responders.

In a coordinated rescue operation involving LASTMA, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, (LASEMA) the driver was miraculously pulled out alive from the wreckage. The victim was promptly rushed to the hospital for medical attention, while officers from the Kirikiri Police Division ensured the security of the scene during the delicate operation.

After the successful rescue, the crushed Toyota Camry was removed, and efforts to clear the fallen container are ongoing. LASTMA officials remain on-site, managing traffic and working to restore order to the area.

Reacting to the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, emphasized the importance of properly securing containers to prevent such life-threatening accidents. He called on truck drivers and owners to adhere strictly to road safety protocols, warning that negligence not only endangers lives but also causes significant disruption.

This incident underscored LASTMA’s unwavering commitment to road safety and traffic efficiency in Lagos. The agency said it would continue to collaborate with stakeholders to enforce traffic laws and enhance public safety across the state.
