Murtala Nyako, embattled Adamawa State governor, has been impeached. He was impeached by eighteen members of the state House of Assembly after adopting the report of the seven-man panel, which was set up to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against the governor and his deputy, Bala Ngilari.
In an attempt to evade impeachment, Ngilari submitted his letter of resignation to the Assembly on Tuesday morning, hours before the lawmakers decided on the fate of the governor.
While a successor is yet to be announced, there are indications that the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Ahmadu Fintiri, would be sworn in before the day runs out.
