Some members of the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP believed to be loyal to Musiliu Obanikoro, Minister of state, foreign affairs 11 on Monday, forcefully took over control of the party secretariat and announced Owolabi Olounje as the new chairman of the party.
Reacting to the development, an aide of Tunji Shelle, the party chairman said to have been removed by the aggrieved party members, informed TELL that his boss was currently attending a party function in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, when contacted for confirmation.
The aide described the action of the aggrieved members of the party as a child’s play while promising that the chairman would be coming straight from Ibadan to take over control of activities at the secretariat later on Monday.
“The Chairman is currently in Ibadan attending some party activities. We heard few people less than 9 members loyal to Koro “Obanikoro” have taken over the state secretariat.
“When we come back later in the day, we will come straight to the secretariat,” the aide said.
He added that it is not possible for “less than 9 members to sack Chairman like that.”
