President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has inaugurated a high-powered Committee on Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilisation to address internal disputes within the All Progressives Congress (APC) and strengthen party cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The committee was inaugurated on Wednesday in Lagos and is tasked with resolving lingering conflicts, promoting unity, and developing a robust mobilisation strategy to sustain the APC’s dominance as Nigeria’s ruling party.
The committee is chaired by Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, while Muiz Banire, former National Legal Adviser of the APC, will serve as Member/Secretary. Its membership cuts across governors, federal cabinet members, and influential party stakeholders. Other members include Senator Adamu Aliero; Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma; and Governors Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Bassey Otu (Cross River), Abiodun Oyebanji (Ekiti) and Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta).
Also named to the committee are Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani; Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara; Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola; Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle; former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello; and Alhaji Ibrahim Masari, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political Affairs.
Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Buni expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and the APC leadership for the confidence reposed in the committee, assuring that members would approach the assignment with fairness, responsibility, and dedication.
According to him, the committee will undertake wide-ranging consultations to develop an inclusive, forward-looking, and result-oriented strategy capable of resolving grievances and preventing future conflicts within the party.
“We will put in place a system that gives every member, especially aggrieved stakeholders, a sense of belonging and renewed hope. We will also adopt proactive measures to identify threats and deploy effective solutions in our conflict resolution approach,” Buni said.
He urged committee members to rise above personal interests and sentiments, stressing that the collective interest of the APC must remain paramount. President Tinubu had earlier underscored the importance of unity and tolerance within the ruling party during the APC’s 15th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on December 19, 2025, at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja.
At the meeting, the President reminded party leaders that the APC was founded on the ideals of progressive politics, inclusiveness, and respect for diverse opinions.
“We must be resolute that this democracy must not fail. We must be accommodating and tolerant—this is the only way we can remain resilient,” Tinubu said.
Political observers say the inauguration of the committee signals the APC’s determination to resolve internal divisions early and present a united front as preparations gradually intensify for the 2027 general elections.
