As part of moves to secure the votes of pensioners in the April 11 governorship election, Akinwunmi Ambode, gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Lagos has promised to assuage their plights, if elected.
Ambode said his administration would build another Pensioners’ Lodge on the Lagos Mainland, to add to the existing one in Ajah.
The governorship candidate said he would engage his experience as a former accountant general of the state to create more comfort and maximum welfare for the retired staff of the state.
Ambode made the promises on Monday when the state Senior citizens and members of the National Union of Pensioners, Lagos chapter met with him at the LTV8 Blue-roof Hall in Ikeja, Lagos.
“You all have served our state meritoriously, you have been part of the excellence that Lagos stands for. You surely deserve your maximum benefits and total welfare, and our government, when elected, will continue to ensure this happens,” he said.
Ambode who said he was addressing the people as a pensioner and also as the son of a pensioner, told the union members that, “I am here to assure you that I will always stand by you and ensure that your yearnings as senior citizens are sufficiently addressed.”
Nojeem Ibrahim, the Chairman of the Union acclaimed Ambode’s managerial skills that saw the steady and regular payment of pensioners’ monies.
Speaking during the meeting, Awoseye Oluwadara, Secretary of the Union said Ambode’s capability to run the affairs of the state was manifested when a backlog of pensioners’ dues were duly paid under his watch as the Accountant-General of the state.
Meanwhile, the retirees have used the opportunity to ask for the harmonization of their benefits and dues by Ambode if elected as governor of the state; while craving for the payment of some of their already approved arrears.Follow Us on Social Media
