Actresses Annie Idibia, Ini Edo and Kehinde Bankole as well as singer Lami Phillips, Emmanuel Ikubese and Mr. Nigeria joined others to participate in the 5th edition of the War Against Rape, WAR, in Lagos on Tuesday, March 10. The walk kicked off from the Archbishop Vinning Memorial Church Ground GRA, Ikeja to Alausa Secretariat.
Designed to give a voice to sexually abused persons – especially women and children, the Walk Against Rape initiative is also committed totally to eradicating the scourge of rape in Nigeria where the number of cases is reportedly on an alarming rise.
The initiative founded by Esther Ijewere-Kalejaiye, social and women-rights activist, was endorsed by the Lagos State Ministry Of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
Ini Edo said, “Domestic violence and rape occur in so many homes in Africa. Women are meant to be protected by men and not abused by them. Lets work together on this.”
Walk Against Rape, W.A.R, Nigeria is a project of Rubies Ink Initiative, a Youth and development support organisation.
The Walk Against Rape campaign was founded to continuously help in raising awareness of sexual violence, its prevalence and effects and in particular, highlight the importance and need for appropriate, high-quality and specialized support for survivors.
