Claims circulating across social media alleging that kitchen staff at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa were arrested over an alleged plot to poison Bola Tinubu have been officially debunked as false.

Over the weekend, a dramatic video and multiple posts spread rapidly on Instagram, Facebook, and X, claiming that a chef or kitchen worker at the Presidential Villa had been detained by security operatives following “suspicious activities” linked to food preparation. Some versions of the viral claim mentioned an “odourless and colourless poison” and described the situation as a shocking security breach that allegedly triggered an emergency investigation and tightened security within the Villa.

However, the Nigerian Presidency has categorically dismissed the story as fabricated.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, addressed the claim directly on his official X account, stating:

“No Aso Rock kitchen staff arrested. No Aso Rock kitchen staff attempted to poison President Tinubu. Please ignore this fake news being disseminated by this video.”

The Presidency described the viral content as baseless and urged Nigerians to disregard it entirely.

Several reputable Nigerian media organizations also reported the official denial, confirming that no such incident occurred. Among the outlets that verified the Presidency’s clarification are Punch, TheCable, The Guardian, Legit.ng, The Whistler, and Daily Trust. All confirmed that there was no arrest, no poisoning attempt, and no security breach at the Presidential Villa.

The viral rumor appears to be another case of misinformation amplified during a politically sensitive period, where unverified claims involving national leadership can quickly gain traction online. Importantly, there is no credible evidence, official security report, or independent confirmation supporting the allegations.

The bottom line is clear: no staff member from the Aso Rock kitchen was arrested, and no attempt was made to poison the President. The story is entirely false.

Nigerians are advised to cross-check sensational claims with verified sources before sharing, especially when they involve national security or high-profile public figures.
