Nigeria’s Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, GODSWILL Akpabio, on Friday led high profile Federal Government officials and former Niger Delta militant commanders to visit the Amayanabo of Okochiri, Ateke Tom, in his Palace at Okochiri, Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Though the details of the discussions were not disclosed to the press after the meeting, which lasted several hours, a source said it covered the peaceful resolution of the controversies surrounding the appointments of the chief executive officers of federal parastatals assigned with the development of the Niger Delta region.
The Minister’s delegation included the Coordinator Presidential Amnesty program, PAP, Milland Dixio Dixon, the Sole Administrator Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Effiong Akwa, as well as fellow former militants like Bibopre Ajube alias Gen. Shoot at Sight, and Ebikabowei Victor Ben, alias Gen. Boyloaf.
Other issues discussed included the peaceful and impactful operation of the interventionist agencies for the Niger Delta, politicisation of development of the region, witch-hunting and setbacks, which had hindered the development of the region.
