After much prodding, Sepp Blatter, on Tuesday, quit his job as President of the Federation of International Football Associations, FIFA, the world’s football governing body.
While announcing his exit from the position to which he just won another re-election, the 79-year-old Swiss said his interest in the smooth running of the affairs of FIFA informed his decision.
“I am very much linked to FIFA and its interests. Those interests are dear to me and this is why I am taking this decision,” Blatter said.
While stressing that he was well-aware that his mandate was not supported by everyone, Blatter said, “What counts most to me is the institute of FIFA and football around the world.”
