Buhari Appoints Gambari as Chief of Staff

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed a new chief of staff. He is Professor Ibrahim Agboola Gambari, CFR. A respected scholar and diplomat. He replaces Mallam Abba Kyari, who died last month of COVID-19.

According to report, Gambari, who was Buhari’s foreign Minister and confidant as military Head of State in the 1980s met with the President at about 8 am on Tuesday at the State House, Abuja. A source said that his appointment may be announced anytime from now. He is expected to assume duty on Wednesday.

Professor Gambari was born in November 24, 1944, in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria.

He was Minister for External Affairs between 1984 and1985 and was the former Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations for the Department of Political Affairs (DPA)and Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Africa between 1999 and 2005.
