Muhammadu Buhari has been sworn in as the fifth elected Nigerian President in Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, FCT on Friday.
Buhari’s emergence as president, 30-years after he left power as military ruler, is historic because it is the first time a candidate of an opposition party would oust a sitting president through a democratic process.
Buhari of the then opposition All Progressives Congress, APC defeated immediate past president Goodluck Jonathan of the then ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the March 28 Presidential election.
In his inauguration speech on Friday, May 29, 72-year-old Buhari said as “President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I will discharge my duties to the best of my ability and in accordance with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the law.”Follow Us on Social Media
