The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has raised the alarm over the activities of fraudsters falsely claiming to have official authorisation for contracts and special financial interventions linked to the bank.
The CBN said these claims, which involve fake award letters for construction projects and funding schemes, are entirely fraudulent.
In a statement issued by the Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Hakama Sidi Ali, the CBN reaffirmed that it no longer engages in direct development interventions or special project funding under its current management policies.
The Bank stressed that it has not issued any public notices or social media posts endorsing such projects.
“These individuals are solely motivated by the desire to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians,” the statement noted.
While urging the public to ignore these false claims and exercise caution when dealing with suspicious offers, the CBN said it remained focused on its core responsibilities of maintaining monetary and price stability, as well as ensuring a sound, efficient financial system in Nigeria.
The apex bank also encouraged citizens to promptly report any fraudulent activities or dubious publications to law enforcement agencies.
This warning is part of the CBN’s ongoing efforts to protect Nigerians from scams and uphold the integrity of the financial system.
