Gani Adams, national coordinator of the Oodua Peoples’ Congress, OPC, has expressed optimism over the report of the just concluded national conference.
In an interview with the magazine on Wednesday, August 27, 2014, the OPC leader said the report has the ability to transform Nigeria into a better society.
Although Adams said the report would have to be subjected for the approval of either the National Assembly or a referendum, he said the report would provide answers to the issues of regionalism and self- autonomy.
“If the report is passed either by the National Assembly or through referendum, Nigeria would be a better nation. It addresses issues that relate to regionalism and self-autonomy. I know what I am saying because I know what we have put in the recommendations,” Adams said.
While stressing that the issue of insurgency in Nigeria would not have arisen if a platform like the National Conference had been put in place in the past, Adams described the situation in the Northern part of the country as a war situation.
“The situation in the Northern part of the country is worrisome; it has become a war situation. We would have averted this situation if something like the National Conference had been set up in the past,” he said.
