A disturbing trend known as the “Decimal Point Challenge” has taken Nigerian social media by storm, provoking widespread condemnation and concern. Originating on TikTok, the challenge features a male user offering small amounts of money to young women in exchange for flashing their breasts during live streams — all captured and shared in real time.

The trend was exposed in a viral thread on X (formerly Twitter) by @JogooRangi, who posted several video clips of Nigerian women participating in the degrading challenge. The man behind it, under the guise of a harmless game, uses the phrase “Decimal Point” as a signal for the women to lift their tops briefly — in exchange for a few digital coins or airtime rewards.

What may appear to some as “just another trend” has struck a nerve with Nigerians across social media platforms, many expressing deep disappointment, concern, and frustration over what they see as a growing culture of online exploitation and moral erosion.

“This is how far desperation and the hunger for clout have taken our girls,” one user commented, while others called on TikTok to immediately ban the account and restrict explicit live content.

Critics argue that the viral trend highlights a broader issue — the growing influence of unregulated content on social media and the vulnerability of young Nigerians to online manipulation and financial coercion.

The Decimal Point Challenge is more than just a fleeting trend — it’s a wake-up call about the direction of youth culture in Nigeria, the consequences of economic hardship, and the dark side of viral fame.

TikTok is yet to respond to the incident as the outcry continues.
