The government of Sierra Leone had ordered a three-day lockdown to forestall the spread of the Ebola Virus Disease, EVD in the country.

The aim of the move is to keep people confined to their homes while health workers isolate new cases and prevent Ebola from spreading further.

Although the move is thought to be a temporary measure in containing the spread of the disease, Medecins Sans Frontieres, MSF, a medical charity organization in Sierra Leone has been a strong critic of the lockdown, arguing that it will help spread the disease more.

In a statement released this month, the MSF said the lockdown would “end up driving people underground and jeopardising the trust between people and health providers.”

It remains to be seen if the measure will yield some positive results against the Ebola epidemic in Sierra Leone, which has affected 13 of the country’s 14 districts, killing more than 500 people.
