Peter Aliu, a member of the Edo State House of Assembly, representing Etsako East constituency, is dead.
Aliu, 61, died in the morning of Monday, November 3 after a protracted illness traced to kidney failure.
Until his death, the lawyer was the Chairman, House committee on appropriation and project monitoring. He was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Born in Igbiode-Agenebode, Etsako East local government area of the state, Aliu became Speaker for a short period in 2010 following the impeachment of Zakawanu Garuba, former Speaker of the House.
He died at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH, Benin City, after he was admitted at the hospital and was about to be flown abroad for medical treatment, a family source told the magazine.
Adams Oshiomhole, Edo State governor and political ally of the late lawmaker has sent a condolence message to the family of the deceased.
Aliu will be missed by the political class because of his known vibrancy in the floor of the House.
