Nigerian businessman and luxury real estate developer, Sijibomi Ogundele, popularly known as Sujimoto, has broken his silence after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) declared him wanted over an alleged failed contract with the Enugu State Government.

The anti-graft agency accused the Chief Executive Officer of Sujimoto Group of mismanaging funds meant for the construction of school buildings in Enugu, a project reportedly abandoned midway. The development has sparked widespread debate both online and within business circles.

Reacting emotionally to the declaration, Sujimoto denied any wrongdoing, insisting that his track record of excellence in real estate development stands as proof of his integrity.

“I am not a thief. My greatest witness is the work I have done and the value I have created for this nation. Anyone who knows me knows that I am passionate about building, about impact, and about contributing to Nigeria’s growth,” he said tearfully.

He further maintained that the allegations were being misrepresented and vowed to clear his name while continuing to focus on delivering world-class projects.

The EFCC, however, urged members of the public with useful information about Ogundele’s whereabouts to come forward, stating that the agency remains committed to prosecuting financial impropriety across all sectors.

Mixed Reactions on Social Media

The EFCC declaration has triggered a wave of reactions online, with many Nigerians weighing in on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram.

One user wrote:

“EFCC is always quick to declare people wanted, but how many politicians who looted billions are facing real consequences? Let’s be fair.”

Another commented:

“If Sujimoto truly abandoned school projects meant for children, then he must face the law. Luxury towers don’t excuse failed contracts.”

A supporter of the businessman tweeted:

“This is a witch-hunt. Sujimoto has done more for real estate than most developers in this country. Let the man defend himself in court.”

Meanwhile, some Nigerians turned the development into satire, posting memes and jokes about the flamboyant entrepreneur’s well-known social media presence.

Sujimoto’s Real Estate Footprint

Sijibomi Ogundele is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most ambitious real estate developers. His company, Sujimoto Group, is behind several high-profile luxury projects in Lagos, including Giuliano by Sujimoto in Banana Island, the Lucrezia de Medici luxury tower in Ikoyi, and other premium residential and commercial properties designed to rival global standards.

Often described as a risk-taker and disruptor in the Nigerian property market, Ogundele has built a reputation for opulent designs and ambitious projects, earning him both admiration and criticism. This is why the EFCC case has attracted national attention, with many questioning how a developer associated with luxury living became entangled in a public sector contract scandal.
