The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has said that it is not thinking of postponing the 2015 General elections as recently canvassed by Sambo Dasuki, the National Security Adviser, NSA.
Kayode Idowu, spokesman to Attahiru Jega, the INEC Chairman, says the issue of postponment of the election is not even being considered by the agency.
The agency’s response came shortly after Atiku Abubakar, former vice president, faulted the recent call for the postponement of the February general elections.
He said the elections must hold as scheduled next month. “I believe there is enough time between now and the elections to issue everyone with their PVCs,” he said.
Abubakar stated this while reacting to the call by Dasuki for a rescheduling of the election in order to allow INEC, conclude distribution of voter cards.
The APC chieftain described Dasuki’s suggestion as one that is uncalled for and portends a dangerous signal about the intentions of the federal government to conduct a free, fair and credible poll in February.
“We must press to the consciousness of those at the helms of affairs that it is morally dubious and socially unacceptable to extend the dates of the elections by a single day from the scheduled timelines,” he said.
