The Federal Government has officially declared Wednesday, October 1st, 2025, as a public holiday to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Hon. (Dr.) Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government. In his message, the Minister congratulated Nigerians at home and abroad on the historic milestone, calling on citizens to uphold the values of patriotism, unity, and resilience that have sustained the nation since its independence in 1960.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo further urged Nigerians to remain committed to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR), which, he noted, is focused on national rebirth, economic transformation, and collective prosperity.

Expressing optimism about the country’s future, the Minister said Nigeria will continue to thrive through the cooperation of its people, emphasizing the need for peace, progress, and sustainable development.

In his closing remarks, he wished all Nigerians a happy and memorable Independence Day celebration as the nation marks its 65th year of sovereignty.

The statement was signed by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, on September 29, 2025.
