Foundation Gives Scholarship to Eleven Students

EMI-KOLA AFOLABI FOUNDATION, an Osogbo-based non-governmental organisation has granted scholarship to eleven indigent students in Osun state. It is a part of the programme of support for the underprivileged undertaken by the NGO on an annual basis. EMI-KOLA AFOLABI FOUNDATION also empowers widows as well as conducts medical outreaches. The latest edition of the widows’ empowerment was done about a month ago during which time ten widows were given granding machines.

The latest beneficiaries of scholarship programme were also given advice by 

Mr. Kola Adetumbi, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the foundation and 

Mr. Segun Olorunsogo, a retired Permanent Secretary, who was the guest of honour at the award ceremony. Mr. Adetumbi admonished the beneficiaries to make good use of the gesture.  Hear him: “Make good use of this opportunity. Take your studies seriously. Be disciplined. Respect your parents, guardians, teachers and other people who contribute to your development. Above all, remain humble and God-fearing.”  While acknowledging the fact that whatever support was being rendered may not solve all their problems in the course of their education, the BoT chairman said it would go a long way to boost their chances of continuing with their education, which he said was crucial to building a good future for each of them. 

He said, “Education remains one of the most powerful instruments for transforming lives. It can break the cycle of poverty, open doors of opportunity and give a young person the confidence and capacity to contribute meaningfully to society. It is, therefore, our firm belief as a Foundation that when we invest in the education of a young person, we are not only helping an individual; we are investing in a family, a community and the future of our society.”

On his part, Mr. Okorunsogo encouraged the beneficiaries show gratitude for the support received by being diligent students, ensure that they are of good character, discover purpose for the certificate they would receive from the school and stay close to God. 

EMI-KOLA AFOLABI FOUNDATION is the brainchild of a nonagenarian couple, James Adenkola and Lucy Emiola Afolabi, both of who retired as permanent secretary and school principal respectively three decades ago.
