The training, which held in Lagos on Friday, January 16, is part of the organization’s efforts towards ensuring that Nigerian journalists equip themselves with requisite digital tools needed to report the elections effectively.

The training, which was attended by journalists drawn from the print and electronic media, afforded participants the opportunity of acquainting themselves with digital tools that help to make stories compelling for their audience.

Examples of such tools include Google sheets; info graphics; and freebase, among many others.

While speaking on the importance of the training, Remi Dada, Product Marketing Manager at Google Nigeria, stressed that the idea behind the training is to provide Nigerian journalists with data-driven tools ahead of the forthcoming 2015 general elections.

“This training is designed to provide Nigerian journalists with data-driven tools which would help them on how to report the elections. It provides more content analysis of how people deal with different key issues during elections,” Dada said.
