Government Reduces LASU Fees

The Lagos State government has reduced the school fees of students of the Lagos State University, LASU.

The state government reduced the fees by percentages ranging from 34 percent to 60 percent across the different faculties and courses in the school.

The decision to reduce the school fees was contained in a communiqué issued after an extensive deliberation on the reports of the Ad Hoc committee that was established by the State Executive Council to review the students’ submissions and make appropriate recommendations.

The Lagos State government had earlier increased the tuition fees. With the increment, students in the faculties of Arts/Education were expected to pay N193,750; Social and Management Sciences, N223,750; Law, N248,750; while those in Communication/Transport, Sciences, Engineering and College of Medicine were to pay, N238,750, N258,750, N298,750 and N348,750 respectively.

The increment were as opposed to the previous regime in which students paid fees ranging between N25,000 and N62,500.

Expectedly, the increment did not go down well with the students who took to the streets in protest and even went as far as mounting a barricade in front of the office of the Lagos State governor, Babatunde Fashola.
