According to reports, gunmen posing as kidnappers broke into the Gandu village area of the Federal University of Lafia in the Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, where they shot and abducted a 300-level sociology department student and abducted a businessman.

Around 8.30pm, the gunmen, armed with sophisticated weapons, invaded the village and began firing into the air in an attempt to terrorise the locals and those nearby before committing their crimes. The ensuing melee provided the needed atmosphere for the large group of armed men to abduct the businessman who was taken to an unidentified location.

Sources say that students living in the Gandu community stayed indoors from 7pm for fear of being attacked.

Recall that sometime last month, unknown assailants robbed some students, who were living in the Gandu community, of their telephones.

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has, therefore, expressed deep concern over the escalating insecurity that continues to plague the environs of various tertiary institutions within the state.

The grave matter came to the forefront during the Governor’s visit to Professor Sheu Rahman, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Lafia, following the unfortunate incident.

Expressing heartfelt sympathy to the management of the institution, Governor Sule restated his government’s unwavering dedication to ensure the installation of stricter security measures across educational institutions in the state.
