Helicopter Crash: Two More Bodies Recovered

Bodies of two missing persons were recovered today, as local divers, officers of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, the Nigeria Police and other security operatives resumed rescue operations at the Oworonshoki site of the helicopter crash that occurred yesterday.Three killed in Third Mainland Bridge Helicopter Crash

The helicopter, which belonged to Bristow Helicopters, crashed into the lagoon near the Oworonsoki end of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos on Wednesday afternoon. According to a statement by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, the helicopter with number 5N – BDG – 760540, sailing from the south south part of the country with 12 passengers on board, was scheduled to arrive its Lagos destination at 3.35pm but crashed into the lagoon.

Four bodies, all males, were recovered on Wednesday, while six persons, who sustained varying degrees of injuries, were rescued. Four of the survivors were said to be in stable condition and responding to treatment at Ggbagada General Hospital. Two others were also being treated at Afolabi Medical Centre, a private hospital in Oworonsoki.

In the meantime, the cause of the crash remains unknown. In a condolence message, the Lagos State government commiserated with families of the deceased over the loss of their loved ones. Oluranti Adebule, Lagos State deputy governor, who paid a visit to the survivors at the Gbagada General Hospital, assured that the best medical care would be available to them at the hospital.
