Unidentified hoodlums have snatched about 4,503 Permanent Voter Cards from five Local Government Areas, LGA’s in Akwa Ibom State.
The was disclosed in a statement issued by Austin Okojie, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC of the state.
While addressing traditional rulers on Tuesday during a summit on peaceful conduct of 2015 elections in Uyo, Okojie said of the 4,503 PVC’s that were snatched, Abak LGA accounted for 664;Ikono LGA lost 96 while Mkpat Enin lost 208. Others are Oruk Anan, which lost 2333 and Ukanafun which lost 1,200.
“We had a security issue where a total of 4,503 of the permanent voter cards were snatched during the exercise in five local government areas of Akwa Ibom State,” Okojie said.
He also enjoined traditional rulers in the state to ensure free, fair and credible elections by using their positions to appeal to members of their communities to go and collect their voters cards.
