Some Nigerians today stormed the National Assembly to protest the planned probe of Ibrahim Idris, Inspector General of Police, by the lawmakers. Idris was asked to appear before the Senate to defend himself against allegations of corruption and abuse of office leveled against him by a Nigerian senator, Isa Misau. Among others,

Misau had accused Idris of bribe-taking and illicit affair with a Nigerian policewoman. Idris failed to honour the invitation last week. He had informed the committee in a letter that appearing before the Senate committee would amount to subjudice since the matter was already in court but the Senate stood its ground and mandated him to appear before it. Idris eventually did today but some youths apparently unhappy about the invitation arrived the national assembly in solidarity with Idris. They displaced various posters, one of which reads “WE STAND BY IGP IBRAHIM K. IDRIS.”
