The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has announced that it would start the distribution of permanent voters’ card to eligible voters in Lagos State in August. Dr. Adekunle Ogunmola, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Lagos disclosed this on Tuesday.

The distribution of the permanent voters’ card, according to Ogunmola would take place between August 22 and 24. He said that the “continuous voters registration exercise would begin immediately from August 27 to 31.” Ogunmola said that the continuous voters registration exercise would give eligible registrants who were unable to vote in 2011 the opportunity to do so.

He said, “Those who have matured into voting age of 18 during the last registration exercise and those whose names are not in the electronic register will also be opportune to register.”

Ogunmola said that the exercise would also provide the commission with the opportunity to ascertain authentic voters, adding that the cards of those who double registered would not be printed because their names had already been de-registered from the system.

He however said that double registrants would have another opportunity to register.
