In a dramatic political development that could reshape Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Kwankwasiyya Movement has officially announced that its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is set to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The announcement, contained in a press statement issued on March 28, 2026, revealed that all arrangements for the high-profile political move have been finalized. According to the statement, Kwankwaso will formally register as a member of the ADC on Monday, March 30, 2026, at his residence, Gidan Kwankwasiyya, located along Miller Road in Kano, by 12 noon.

The development signals a significant shift for the Kwankwasiyya Movement, one of Nigeria’s most influential grassroots political blocs, particularly in northern Nigeria.

Following the decision, members of the movement across the country have been directed to immediately begin registration with the ADC in their respective wards, local government areas, and states. They have also been urged to actively participate in party activities and contribute to strengthening the party’s structure nationwide.

The statement described the move as a “strategic decision” taken in the best interest of the movement, Kano State, and Nigeria at large. It emphasized the group’s continued commitment to democratic values, good governance, and the collective will of the people.

“The Kwankwasiyya Movement remains resolute, united, and committed to building a better and more inclusive Nigeria,” the statement read, while stressing the need to protect democracy and uphold the will of the electorate.

The announcement was signed by the movement’s spokesperson, Habibu Sale Mohammed.

Political analysts say Kwankwaso’s anticipated move to the ADC could trigger fresh realignments across party lines, especially as political actors begin early positioning ahead of the next electoral cycle.
