Tension is rising in parts of Kwara State after a disturbing viral video showed four captured suspected bandits threatening to return to attack a rural community “more dreaded” after the end of Ramadan.

The video, widely circulated on social media and shared by Objectv Media, allegedly shows the detained suspects openly declaring plans to regroup and intensify kidnapping operations in Eruku, a town in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.

In the clip, the suspects appear defiant despite being in custody, boldly claiming that their group would reinforce its ranks after the holy month of Ramadan and return to continue abductions in the community.

The chilling threats come after gunmen reportedly carried out another raid in the Eruku area, during which four residents were abducted. Security operatives were said to have captured the four suspects during the operation, but the viral footage has raised serious concerns among residents about the persistence and confidence of criminal groups operating in the region.

Eruku, located near the border between Kwara State and Kogi State, has increasingly become a flashpoint for banditry and kidnapping attacks in recent months.

The community witnessed a deadly assault in November 2025 when gunmen stormed Christ Apostolic Church Oke-Isegun during an evening worship service. At least two worshippers were killed in the attack, while 38 others were abducted by the assailants.

All the abducted worshippers were eventually rescued following security operations, with Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of Nigeria, announcing their release at the time. However, the relief proved temporary as bandits returned to the area weeks later, targeting farmers working in nearby fields.

One of the victims of those attacks was reportedly a farmer identified as Annas Aasanru, highlighting the growing dangers faced by rural communities that depend heavily on agriculture for their livelihoods.

In early March 2026, residents again reported attempted abductions in the area, with armed men allegedly burning vehicles during one of the raids. Local forest guards and vigilante groups were able to repel some of the attacks, but the repeated incursions have left villagers living in constant fear.

The circulation of the latest video has triggered outrage online, with many Nigerians questioning the boldness of suspects making threats even while reportedly in custody. Social media users have also raised concerns about the apparent confidence of bandit groups operating across rural border communities.

Residents say the ongoing attacks have forced many farmers to abandon their fields, while night gatherings, religious activities, and community events have drastically reduced due to security fears.

As of press time, authorities in Kwara State had not issued an official statement confirming the authenticity of the video or outlining specific measures being taken in response to the suspects’ threats.

Community leaders are now urging the government and security agencies to deploy more personnel to the region, strengthen intelligence gathering, and dismantle bandit hideouts believed to exist in forests surrounding the Kwara–Kogi border.

For residents of Eruku and nearby communities, the threat captured in the viral video has deepened anxiety during Ramadan, turning prayers for peace into urgent appeals for protection.

Observers warn that unless decisive action is taken quickly, the suspects’ vow to return could signal another cycle of violence in an area already struggling with recurring bandit attacks and kidnappings.

Authorities are expected to provide further updates as investigations into the incident continue.
