The 2026 All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries in Lagos State have ended in dramatic fashion, producing crushing victories, shocking political upsets, and renewed debate over the influence of party power brokers ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The biggest shock of the primaries came from Surulere Constituency 1, where former Special Adviser on Housing Barakat Odunuga-Bakare overwhelmingly defeated Nollywood actor-turned-lawmaker Desmond Elliot in what many observers are calling one of the most humiliating losses in recent Lagos political history.

Official results showed Odunuga-Bakare polling a staggering 11,385 votes, while Elliot managed just 270 votes.

The landslide victory immediately sparked widespread reactions across social media and political circles, with many linking Odunuga-Bakare’s success to her strong backing from influential APC leaders, including Femi Gbajabiamila.

Several heavyweight politicians and incumbents also emerged victorious across Lagos constituencies.

Agege Federal Constituency

Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, secured the APC ticket for the House of Representatives seat in a dominant showing.

Surulere Federal Constituency

Incumbent lawmaker Fuad Kayode Laguda retained his position comfortably with 8,432 votes.

Ikeja Federal Constituency

Veteran politician James Faleke successfully retained the APC ticket, further solidifying his political influence within Lagos APC structures.

Kosofe Federal Constituency

Former local government chairman Moyosore Oshinowo, popularly known as Mayor Dele Osinowo, defeated incumbent lawmaker Kafilat Ogbara in another closely watched contest.

Oshodi-Isolo Federal Constituency I

Taiwo Ayedun emerged victorious to secure the APC ticket for the constituency.

Lagos Central Senatorial District

Incumbent senator Wasiu Sanni Eshilokun returned unopposed, reportedly securing a massive 25,314 votes across 52 wards.
