The Lagos State Government has announced plans to partially close sections of the Lekki–Ajah corridor for eight months to enable extensive rehabilitation and infrastructure upgrades aimed at easing chronic traffic congestion along the busy route.

Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this on Wednesday, explaining that the project is part of the government’s broader strategy to modernize Lagos’ road network and improve mobility within one of the state’s fastest-growing urban corridors.

According to the Commissioner, the partial closure will be carefully managed to minimize disruptions, with designated diversion routes, extended working hours for contractors, and real-time traffic updates through official state communication channels.

He noted that the rehabilitation will include road resurfacing, improved drainage systems, upgraded pedestrian walkways, and the installation of new traffic signals to enhance safety and efficiency.

Osiyemi assured motorists and residents that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) would be fully deployed along the corridor to ensure smooth movement and provide assistance during peak hours

“We are appealing for understanding and cooperation from residents, commuters, and business owners. The temporary inconvenience will lead to lasting improvements in travel time and road safety,” Osiyemi stated.

The project, expected to commence this month, underscores Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to addressing Lagos’ long-standing transportation challenges through sustainable infrastructure renewal and traffic management reforms.

When completed, the upgraded Lekki–Ajah corridor is projected to significantly reduce congestion, improve access to adjoining communities, and boost economic activity across the Lekki Peninsula.
