Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the ousted governor of the Central Bank has been named as the new Emir of Kano.

As Emir, Sanusi who was removed from office ostensibly for being too critical of the President Goodluck Jonathan administration, becomes one of the most influential spiritual leaders in the Northern parts of Nigeria.

The Emir of Kano is the second-highest Islamic authority in Nigeria. The state government in Kano made the decision after four kingmakers had met and submitted nominees.
