Man Jailed for Stealing Generator

Salisu Ali, a middle aged man, was today convicted for stealing a power generating set by an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court, 28 sitting at Ijaiye Ojokoro Local Council Development Authority, LCDA, Lagos State.

Ali was arraigned by the Nigerian Police Force, Ipaja division before O.A. Layinka, Senior Magistrate on Tuesday, on a two-count charge bordering on stealing.

Idowu Onime, police prosecutor, said the crime, which was committed on May 19, 2014 was punishable under the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2011.

When the charges were read to him, Ali confirmed the police evidences as facts and pleaded guilty to the crime.

Relying on his plea and police evidences brought before the court, Layinka convicted him to three months jail term without option of fine.

“Judging by the evidences before the Court, I have found the defendant (Salisu Ali) guilty as charged,” she said.

On May 19, Ali was said to have entered into the premises of one Samuel Olalekan at Ipaja area of Lagos, burgled his generator room and made away with the only generating set in there. But luck ran out on him when Azeez Alelamole, a security guard caught him with the stolen item and immediately handed him over to the police for prosecution.

Layinka also ordered the immediate release of the 950 Model Tiger generator to the owner within 48-hours of the court judgement.
