A 15-year-old girl in Nepal has reportedly committed suicide on July 9 because her favourite team, Brazil, suffered a colossal loss to Germany, who defeated them 7-1 at the ongoing Brazil 2014 World Cup.
The girl, Pragya Thapa, who was a 10th grade student, hanged herself on Wednesday morning in Bharaul village in the country’s capital, Kathmandu. Thapa’s mother found her hanging from the ceiling of her bedroom. She was said to have been doing homework in her room after talking about the game with her friends on the phone.
Police say preliminary investigations are still being conducted on the incident. Sharad Thapa, one of the investigators said initial findings indicate that Thapa was anxious to see Brazil in the finals of the World Cup and was disappointed when Germany routed her favourite team.
She was also said to have been consistently taunted by her friends after Brazil was walloped 7-1 by Germany.
