Omobola Johnson, Nigeria’s Minister of Communication and Technology, ICT has urged Nigerians to invest in the Information Communication and Technology, ICT, sector.

The minister stated this during the inauguration of the advisory board for the Office for Nigeria Content Development in ICT. Speaking at the event, the Minister said that out of the over 4 million smartphones that are imported to Nigeria every month, investors can explore the opportunities in the development. “If investors can not manufacture phones for now, they can manufacture memory cards and other parts that can be used for the imported phones,” she said.

Johnson explained that the initiative is to enable the local ICT industry to contribute meaningfully towards the achievement of national development targets.

She added that the target would not be limited to national development but extend to the global market. “This dispensation is determined to enable indigenous information technology firms and provide them opportunities that will improve their ability to provide relevant products and services that satisfy the Nigerian consumers,” she noted.
