Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade/Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have recorded major breakthroughs in their ongoing offensive across Taraba State, dismantling criminal hideouts, neutralising armed elements, seizing weapons, and arresting a prime suspect linked to bandit activities.
According to a statement by UMAR MUHAMMAD Lieutenant, Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, the military success followed days of coordinated raids under Operation Zafin Wuta across Shiid, Agia, and Tyozua communities in the Takum Local Government Area. Acting on credible intelligence, troops advanced into mountainous settlements previously believed to be inaccessible.
Bandits reportedly fled deeper into rugged terrain as the soldiers closed in, abandoning several camps which were later searched and destroyed. In Tyozua, the fleeing criminals burned a wooden bridge to hinder troop movement, but soldiers pushed forward and forced their escape route toward neighbouring Benue State.
During the operation, one suspect identified as Dahiru Maigari was arrested and is currently under investigation.
In a separate offensive on December 4, troops on patrol around Karim Lamido came under fire from bandits concealed near Wudompi community. The troops swiftly returned fire, neutralising two armed men without recording any casualties.
A search of the scene led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle and 21 rounds of ammunition. Intelligence suggests the attackers were linked to the Karimjo faction, believed to be regrouping in the area.
Security sources confirm that calm has been restored across Karim Lamido, with soldiers maintaining heightened surveillance.
Reacting to the progress, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, praised the professionalism and gallantry of his troops. He assured residents that the Brigade remains committed to hunting down criminals, destroying their safe havens, and restoring peace across Taraba State.
The army reiterated that no terrain or criminal hideout is beyond reach.
