The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Ogun State command, has arrested some petrol attendants for selling petrol above the approved pump price. Officials of the command went round some petrol stations over the weekend, and found out that many of the stations have fuel in their underground tanks, yet claimed otherwise in other to create artificial scarcity. The officials also noted that those filling stations that were selling petrol, were selling above the approved pump price.

Following a directive issued by Oladapo Amujare, zonal commander, Zone F, NSCDC, officials of the command visited some parts of the state to monitor activities at petrol stations while fuel scarcity persists. He directed the officials to warn those selling above the pump price to revert to the official price, while those who are recalcitrant should be arrested.

Some of those arrested claimed that products being sold at higher prices were actually bought from the marketers at higher rate. Some also claimed that there is a rumour that the federal government is planning to increase the prices of petroleum products. Meanwhile, the federal government through the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has denied such plans, claiming further that it has enough to supply to Nigerians.
