As part of efforts to ensure adequate security during the Christmas and New Year celebrations, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, on Monday, announced that it has deployed no fewer than 55,000 personnel nationwide.

In addition to this the corps says it has also deployed about 15,500 specially-trained sniffer dogs, especially to places considered as hot spots.Emmanuel Okeh, NSCDC spokesman, said the dogs would complement the efforts of the civil defence personnel by ensuring that people abide by law and order during the festive season.

Okeh explained that the NSCDC has also taken delivery of about 500 specially-trained sniffer dogs from the US to complement the 15,000 it already has on ground.

Okeh said the NSCDC had deployed 5,000 personnel to some strategic states like the Federal Capital Territory, FCT in Abuja, Lagos, Kano and Port Harcourt adding that other states would have no fewer than 2,000 personnel.

He said strategic places such as churches, recreation spots, federal highways and all places of public gathering would have security beefed up around them.

Okeh said other specialised units such as the Special Forces, counter-terrorism unit and surveillance vehicles will also be deployed to maintain law and order.

He urged Nigerians to be vigilant during the festive season and promptly report any suspicious movement to security agents.
