Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has assured the feuding factions in Ogwashi-Uku community, Aniocha North Local Government Area of the state, of amicable resolution of their internal land disputes.
The governor made the appeal Thursday when some Ogwashi-Uku indigenes, led by the Ogwashi-Uku Development Union (ODU) President General, Patrick Osamor, protested to Government House, Asaba, seeking government’s intervention.
Oborevwori who spoke through his Senior Political Adviser, Senator Emmanuel Aguariavwodo, praised the protesters for their peaceful demeanor, which he said aligned with the administration’s “Enhanced Peace and Security”.
The aggrieved indigenes of Ogwashi-Uku in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State called for the intervention of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori over alleged land-grabbing by their traditional ruler contrary to customary land administration by village chiefs and ‘Diokpa’.
Taking their protest to the Government House on Thursday, the governor appealed for peace and calm, promising to resolve the issue amicably.
The Ogwashi-Uku Development Union (ODU) President General, Mr. Osamor alleged that “Land grabbers sell lands without Diokpa’s consent; they have recruited youths into a cartel for nefarious land deals”.
Responding, Senator Emmanuel Aguariavwodo, who spoke on behalf of the governor, praised the protesters, saying,
“I commend you for conducting yourselves peacefully. Be rest assured, your grievances will be addressed speedily and resolved amicably.”
The governor underscored peace and security as pivotal, promising that his administration’s response would resolve the dispute and restore harmony.
