Edo State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Paul Ohonbamu has urged the people of the state to disregard the Peoples Democratic Party’s 65th Independence anniversary statement describing it as wrong narratives which were politically motivated.
Dismissing the statement as malicious and a political propaganda, Ohonbamu said “It is becoming obvious that the PDP’s Reasoning Box Has Reached the age of Menopause”.
The PDP Publicity Secretary, Daniel Noah Osa Ogbegie, a lawyer, had alleged that Edo State under Governor Okpebholo had witnessed “reversal in motion”.
He claimed that since November 2024, “over ₦500 billion has passed through this government — from FAAC, IGR, and inherited balances. Yet not one landmark project has been commissioned. No sectoral reform. No coherent policy direction. Instead, state resources have been deployed as stipends to political godfathers and enforcers”, while the state “is now drowning under unprecedented insecurity”.
Ogbegie accused the governor of paying out ₦914 million to Tony Kabaka Adun, approved by the state executive council “under the false pretence of “respecting a court judgment” which he alleged never existed.
The PDP further alleged that the government planned to pay over ₦1.4 billion — ₦100 million each to settle the 14 former members-elect of the Edo State House of Assembly “who refused to present themselves for inauguration under Obaseki, thereby depriving their constituencies of representation”, among other allegations against the APC administration in the state.
However, in his reaction, Ohonbamu contended that these claims were politically motivated and urged the public to disregard what he called the “false narratives and propaganda” aimed at undermining Governor Okpebholo’s administration.
Insisting that Governor Okpebholo’s leadership is driven by a commitment to public service, not personal interests and will not be intimidated by black mail and propaganda, Ohonbamu said “The Governor remains committed to providing effective governance, addressing the needs of Edo people, and promoting economic development. He is prepared to work with all stakeholders to build a better future for the state.
“The Governor has ensured that the issue of insecurity in the state which is a national challenge will soon be a thing of the past and no legacy projects, including the Stella Obasanjo Hospital have been abandoned by the administration”.
While therefore urging Edo people to stand in solidarity with Governor Okpebholo and shun blackmail and propaganda by political opponents who never see anything good the administration has embarked upon, the commissioner emphasised that “The allegations of the PDP do not warrant a response because the Governor Okpebholo led administration will rather focus on building on the SHINE Agenda – that benefits our state.”
