Voters in some parts of Ona Ara Local Government Area, Oyo State, have expressed fear over insufficient number of security personnel deployed to some polling units.
Most of the polling zones visited by this reporter have only one policeman each attached to a unit while there are no security personnel in some zones.
Moshood Saheed, Presiding officer of Ward 11, Unit 6 in Ona Ara local government who spoke with TELL said security personnel attached to the unit have not arrived as at 12:30 pm.
“We were told it’s a Civil Defence official attached to this unit but we have not seen anyone. Well, everything is in order and the people have been cooperative,” he said adding that he and other Presiding officers nearby had contacted the nearest Divisional Police officer. There is no security personnel in unit 6 of the zone as well.
Afeez Akingbade, a resident of Olororo area said, “Absence of security personnel pose a great risk. We hope the police or other officials come around before voting begins.”
Accreditation is still going on peacefully in the zones.
