The Chairman of Emohua Local Government area in Rivers State has inaugurated a task force to fight the menace of oil bunkering in the area.
The Chairman of the Local Government, Chidi Lloyd, who inaugurated the task force disowned people who he said had been collecting tax from the illegal oil bunkerers supposedly on behalf of the local government.
Emohua is one of the local government areas of Rivers State where the activities of crude oil bunkerers are thriving along with the illegal artisanal refining of petrol.
Lloyd said he has not mandated any person or group of persons to negotiate or collect revenue from the operators of illegal oil bunkering activities going on in the local government area.
He said those demanding tax from the illegal bunkering activities in the name of the council were criminals and would be made to face the law.
The chairman also inaugurated the sanitation committee and the development control and physical planning committee of the local government area.
