Rivers to sanction schools that flout Oct 6 resumption date

The Rivers State Government has announced that it will sanction any school that resumes before October 6. The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Michael West, on Monday informed newsmen in Port Harcourt, the state capital, that government opted to reopen schools on October 6 to make certain that preventive and protective measures were put in place against the spread of Ebola Virus Disease.
The Permanent Secretarysaid that all schools in the state were expected to provide water and ensure cleaner environment for their pupils and students before resumption of classes. Dr. Sampson Parker, Rivers State Commissioner for Health, said that more than 200 persons in the state were under surveillance.
“The surveillance days will expire today, September 22, and it is necessary to watch them for some time before October 6. The ministries of health and education met and arrived on the October 6 date for schools to reopen and we believe the date is okay,” he said.
