Samuel Ortom, supervising Minister of Aviation has debunked rumours making the rounds that the fire that gutted the Kaduna Airport last Saturday was caused by sabotage. He said the fire was caused by a technical fault.
Ortom who is also the Minister of State, Trade and Investment, made this known in Kaduna on Tuesday when he visited the airport barely 24 hours after it was reopened for normal activities.
“Issue of sabotage I want to rule it out, it is purely a technical problem that led to the fire and we will ensure that it does not happen again. My technical team is competent and conducting an investigation to know the issues that led to the fire that engulfed the control tower, and until a report is given to us we can’t say what caused it.
“The good thing is that operations have resumed and continued after a few hours,’’ he said.
Ortom who also used the visit to announce that construction of five new terminals at the Abuja, Enugu, Kano, Port Harcourt and Lagos Airports; and assured passengers of safety in the airport.
