The Chairman of the Social democratic Party, SDP, in Rivers State, Solsuema Osaro, has called on the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RISIEC, to cancel last Saturday’s local government elections in the state.

Osaro, who was responding to the outcome of the polls, said there were glaring electoral irregularities during the exercise that calls for the cancellation of the elections.

The SDP chairman said that RISIEC did not distribute vital election materials, particularly result sheets in any of the polling units.

“There were no result sheets in which the results were entered. On this premises, I make bold to call on RISIEC to cancel outright the entire elections because sanctity of that election was compromised. We also call on Hon. Justice George Omereji (Rtd.) to humbly resign as the Chairman and chief executive of RISIEC because he had conducted election that is below the simple degree of decency. The opposition parties were disenfranchised,” he say.

The SDP chairman said the failure of Governor Nyesom Wike to vote in the election was a clear indication that he did not have confidence in the credibility of the election.

Meanwhile, the full results of the elections were declared on Sunday by RISIEC with the ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, winning all the chairmanship and councillorship elections in the state.
