One of the five persons kidnapped by suspected killer herdsmen on Saturday at the spot Olajide Sowore, younger brother of Omoyele Sowore, Sahara Reporters publisher was killed at Isuwa, near Okada, Edo State, has been rescued by men of the state police command.
The state police public relations officer, PPRO Bello Kontongs identified the rescued victim as Emmanuella Anyanwu, a Catholic reverend sister. Kontongs said she was rescued unhurt.
Announcing the new development via WhatsApp message titled “Rescue of Kidnapped Victim” sent to journalists at about 7.35 pm on Sunday, the police spokesman said rescue operation was still ongoing for the remaining four victims.
The late sibling of the convener of #Revolution Now was a student in the Faculty of Pharmacy, Igbinedion University, Okada, IUO. The Police had earlier on Sunday explained that he was a victim of circumstance, as he unknowingly drove into the firing line of the kidnappers who were attacking passengers of a broken-down commercial bus.
The full message reads: “Rescue of kidnapped victim. Good evening gentlemen/ladies of the press. This is to inform you that one of the five kidnapped victims, Reverend Sister Emmanuella Anyanwu, kidnapped at Isuwa by Morgan Farm on 04/09/2021, has been rescued, unhurt. Rescue opps is still ongoing to ensure all other victims are rescued unhurt. For your information please (FYI). Any media house that wants to interview her can come around 10.30 of 06/09/2021 at the State Headquarters”.
Recall that the state governor, Godwin Obaseki, had in a condolence message to Omoyele Sowore on Saturday, vowed that the government would work with all security agencies to ensure that the killers of his younger brother were brought to book.
