The family of veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has reportedly appealed for urgent medical assistance after revealing that the actor is battling stage 4 cancer.

In an emotional appeal circulating on social media, one of Ogogo’s daughters asked Nigerians to help the family identify a medical facility or specialist willing and able to take on her father’s case.

“Please, I’m here to ask for help for my dad. He has stage 4 cancer and it’s really bad,” she said in the video. “The hospital is refusing to treat him.”

According to the family, their appeal is not primarily about raising money. The daughter said financial assistance had already been provided for the actor’s medical expenses, including support from a senator.

“We are not begging for money — money is not the problem,” she said, stressing that the family’s immediate concern is finding appropriate medical care.

She appealed to Nigerians, medical professionals and healthcare facilities to provide information about a hospital or specialist that could assess and treat the veteran actor.

The development has triggered an outpouring of concern among fans and colleagues, with social media users sharing prayers and calling for assistance for the respected Yoruba film star.

Ogogo, born Taiwo Babajide Al Hassan on October 31, 1959, in Ilaro, Ogun State, is one of the longstanding figures in Yoruba-language cinema. He began his entertainment career in the early 1980s and eventually left his job at the Lagos Water Corporation to pursue filmmaking full-time.

Before becoming a household name in Nollywood, Hassan trained as an automobile mechanic at Yaba Technical College and worked as a mechanic while developing his acting career.

Over more than four decades, he has built a reputation as an actor, producer and filmmaker, appearing in numerous Yoruba-language productions and major Nollywood projects. His credits include Owo Blow, Omin, Atitebi, Ekun-Ayo and Aníkúlápó.

The actor has also received recognition for his contribution to the Nigerian film industry, including a City People Movie Lifetime Achievement Award and an Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards nomination.

The reported cancer development comes after Ogogo previously opened up about a serious health battle. In interviews published earlier in 2026, he discussed suffering from a severe ulcer that left him unable to eat for months. He said he sought treatment after becoming seriously unwell while working on a film and credited his eventual recovery to divine intervention.

His previous health struggle should not, however, be confused with the family’s latest claim about cancer. As of August 18, 2026, the stage 4 cancer diagnosis and the family’s account of difficulties securing treatment are based on the family’s public appeal and have not been independently verified by a hospital or medical authority.

Ogogo remains a highly respected figure in Yoruba cinema, and the latest appeal has renewed attention on his health and generated calls for compassion and urgent medical assistance.

The family’s central request remains finding qualified medical professionals or an appropriate healthcare facility willing to evaluate his condition and determine what treatment options may be available.
